This afternoon we had our grand opening and ribbon cutting for our new pantry+ on the third floor of the City Union. The pantry not only has food but also toiletries and hygiene items and some school supplies as well. In addition, students can come to the pantry for help connecting to food and shelter insecurity resources both on and off campus. All current students are welcome to come use the pantry. Students simply have to scan their Ncard and are then welcome to take whatever they need.
This pantry is specifically for UNL students facing food and/or shelter insecurity. We often see students with the following struggles:
-Having to choose between paying bills on time and spending enough money on food
-Not having enough money/food to last them the whole month
-Only having, for example, $20 or $30 to spend on food for the week
-Students who don’t have somewhere to live and couch surf with friends
-Not having enough money to buy healthy, balanced meals
If any of these situations apply to you or students you know, the Huskers Helping Huskers Pantry+ is here to help! For more information on resources and pantry hours, go to pantry.unl.edu
In addition, we are continuing to accept donations for the pantry. A list of most-needed items can be found on the pantry website. Donations can be dropped off in the bin on the north side of the first floor of the City Union near the welcome desk or at the pantry in room 348 of the City Union. If the pantry is closed, you can leave your donations in the bin outside the pantry door. If your group would like to hold a food drive for the pantry, contact the pantry at 402-472-8975 or at firstname.lastname@example.org
We are so excited to begin helping students with their food and shelter insecurity issues!
