This past Monday, we had the chance to participate in the new First Husker Program. This is a brand new program that the First-Year Experience and Transitions Program Office coordinated this year. This program is for first-generation students, and over 60 participated in the program this year. Students got to move in early and go through a few days of special activities to get them ready for classes to start on Monday. We were able to present a few sessions on Monday about money management, particularly budgeting and student loans. We did some fun activities including a crossword competition, plinko, and a game where students had to budget their ‘money’ to buy prizes that they wanted. We really enjoyed being able to participate and meet all of these new first-year students, and they had great questions for us!
We have a lot of events coming up in the next couple weeks where we are giving out free stuff! Come see us at:
New Grad Student Welcome Fair on Thursday, August 20th from 12-2 pm in the Union Centennial Room
Party at the Union on Saturday, August 22nd from 9:30-11:30 pm in the Union
Big Red Welcome Street Festival on Sunday, August 23rd from 6:30-8:30 pm outside the stadium in the stadium loop
East Campus Club Fair on Thursday, August 27th at 4:30 at the East Campus Rec
We’ll have our Plinko board at all of these events, so come see us to play and win prizes!
This summer we had to opportunity to participate in multiple ways during New Student Enrollment in June and early July. We were able to connect with hundreds of incoming freshmen and their parents with our handouts on Tips for Husker Parents and postcards for students letting them know what we’re all about. We also loved interacting with parents each day at our presentations with Union Bank, which allowed us to explain in more depth what we do at the Student Money Management Center. In addition, we had the chance to go to lunch with parents almost every day at Selleck and answer their questions about UNL. We really enjoyed meeting everyone and we can’t wait until students get to campus! Remember that incoming freshmen and their parents are welcome to contact us with questions or come in for an appointment even before the fall semester starts on August 24th! Incoming freshmen- be sure to find our booth at Party at the Union on the Saturday before classes start and at Big Red Welcome Street Festival the Sunday before classes start for games, prizes, giftcard drawings, and more fun stuff! We can’t wait!!
